Default Steering Stop bolts necessary?

Ok after the first time out on the XC300, I hate how "short" the turning radius is. Had 3 "moments" where I hit a tree in the outside exiting a corner bc the bike stopped turning when I was expecting it to go a little more.

Can't I just remove these things? I have some beefy radiator guards that would hit the lower clamp. It would take a BIG get off to damage something in my opinion.

What say the wise men of this forum?

Thanks

That is my biggest complaint with my bike. I don't recommend taking them out, but I ground down the bolt heads till it all but touches the frame. once you get the feel of the bike it's not too bad. I pick just a slightly wider line with the front wheel in the tight stuff.

Thanks Ham. How much would you say you ground off the bolt? 2/3 of it?

It's pretty weird to have to consciously think about that after never having to think about a steering stop before. I'm even noticing the difference just moving the bike around in my garage.

Agree with what "twowheels" says. I ride very tight wood trails. You'll get used to it. Trust me or us.....

Only time I noticed it was when I was pushing the bike around. The 13 has changed where the stops hit but really dont notice the difference in the woods.

I took washers (that are under those bolts) away. It helped little.

Steve your comment reminds me of something my grandfather used to say:

"You will get used to anything if you do it long enough ... even hanging!"
