Default Broken - Aluminum rear fender support

Just wondering a few things about this (Bike is a 2005 ec250). First off, it seems pretty expensive at around $70 to replace one. Is there any way to replace it for cheaper or are there interchangeable parts that could be used to change the rear end? I'm not crazy about the whole rear plastic set up with the support so I'd like to eliminate it if possible. Final question is - is this a common problem?

If you don't run a large tailight and plate holder, you don't even need it. Depending on what you need you could adapt one from another bike or make your own from some scrap plastic. On my '00 I used an Acerbis universal plastic rear fender brace, but I don't think they are available anymore. I never liked that aluminum loop either.

I do run the tailight and plate holder since I have my bike plated and use it to connect forest roads etc. That acerbis one sounds like a good idea and I'll look into that. Thanks for the feedback GMP. I really like the look of the new GG rear fender - but I don't think that will bolt up.

'07 is completely different, but if you plan on keeping the bike for awhile and have the cash, the entire '07 tail section fits the '05 frame and is a nice upgrade.

Do you happen to know the price of the 07 tail section? I went to the gofasters sight and couldn't find it.

Thanks Nick, I had my other one welded by a friend for $15, we'll see if it holds up. I'll check with you for future parts though!
