Default Changing needle position?

I have an 03 ec300 with pwk38 carb. I was trying to change the needle position yesterday and my book tells me to use a pair of small needle nose and detach the throttle cable. But i can get it off? Any tricks im missing? I didnt want to mess up the spring or cable.

Thanks

Here's what I do. Note item 2 - white plastic ring with a tooth on the inside of the ring. This ring needs to come up with the spring to get the cable off. When reinstalled the tooth goes back in the notch.

A medical Hemostat comes in real handy . clip it on the bottom of the spring to hold everything together.

I do it just like Dave suggests. Never have much trouble.
