The water pump impeller bearing let go and took out the cases. Freak thing!

Its not the first engine to do that. Actually was a batch of engines in the 09-11 vintage where they went to the slimmer water pump housing and the impellor never had sufficient clearance. Theres a big ol thread on it somewhere.

It was not downshifting properly. I guess parts of the bearing were jamming the gears. i had only been riding for maybe 15 mins. Then it made a bad grinding noise, so I stopped.
