Default Clutch Friction Disk Cleanup thread

I remember a while ago there was a thread posted (possibly by GMP) showing how to go about cleaning up all the casting and poor workmanship on clutch friction disks to get them working as they should.

Have tried searching and failed, so now hoping someone here bookmarked it

I think it had more to do with polishing the clutch basket dogs that the clutch plates fit into. The clutch baskets in the past didn't have good finish/disc fitment and by slightly polishing the slots that the clutch pack fits into it allowed better movement and release.

There was another thread that also talked about drilling the basket to allow better oil flow, helping to reduce overheating and the squeeling that comes with it. I think the newer bikes come that way now but I'm not sure when they made the change.

Sharp edges will dig into the inner basket which gets grooved. Dremel with a stone bit and too much spare time will help a light chamfer, Just take the edge off.

I've smoothed a worn inner before

Wow ... you can find anything on the internet

I might just grab a fresh set of plates from stock and see what's up.
