Default GG Shifter Issues?

I bought my 2011 250xc Race 11 months ago, and yesterday the shifter shaft broke at the weld during the first lap of a HS for no apparent reason, no hits, no crashes, nothing. It was fine one second and the next it was limp as a noodle. I'm pretty aggravated about it even though I know mechanical things tend to break from time to time.

I read about two other people who had the same thing happen and I'm wondering how many others have had the same problem. I just want to know for my own personal knowledge, not to start anything. My main concern is if I fix it now is the same thing likely to happen again in a few months.

Please post here if you had something similar happen to your GG.

Design is fine, individual weld was not. Plenty of old GGs still running with no issues. When I get a new bike I pull this out, make sure scorpion is free and smooth, and check the welds. Tig it, but be sure the scorpion is flat and not distorted from the heat.

Same failure mode as a KTM PV drum gear.

Are you saying that I should have this one welded again or buy a new one and have it welded before installing it? Should I warn the welder about anything specific such as don't use too much heat?

Re-weld the old one. Low and slow - don't use more heat than necessary. It's the scorpion piece itself I have in stock.

Allegedly, the Aussie importer has never sold or replaced a tranny part, this is second hand info. There are 4000+ odd gassers in oz, this sound just plain unlucky. I hope it is not too costly and works out for you.
