And I can't make any sense out of the BV stack either "that's a weird arrangement of shims.
looks like a 2 stage stack with a bleed shim, way over done.

What about this
BV
22x10
11x10
20x10
19x10
18x10
17x10
12x20
That is almost what i have done. i have pulled both the 11x10 in the BV and rebound stack.

Also pulled the 11x10 in the Check plate/mid valve.

I have tested it but it still feels bad. When i feather the throttle at high speed i get speed wobble. and on braking the front is still like a pogo stick.

Still no sign of the Rebound piston rings But i would like to pick your brains on this web site where the Showa forks appear to have a 25mm piston ring.

Have a look your comments would be appreciated, I may even buy some to try for the sake of £12 a pair. Even if i have to buy the piston itself it may just work in the shivers.

I would ask Les at LT racing...or Some one on thumper talk.
I would think that you would have to accurately measure the stock band and compare it to the showa one.
Also there is a correct way to install them.
Have you tried Race Tech suspension they may have a split band that is easier to install.

my new piston rings arrive 3 weeks ago from Spain to austria to germany.
only 3 weeks this is OK

Have you fitted them yet ? If so how much difference have they made?

Well Well since hearing about Klausen receiving his piston rings i contacted GG uk and my rebound piston rings were sitting in the shop mmm.

I have received them today along with a complete new bottom valve (which i ordered cos the thread on the aluminium adjuster body was weak) But the adjuster comes with comp piston shims adjuster complete. which i did not expect.

Crack on tomorrow putting new ring in and see what happens.

I may have mentioned this in another thread, but unless your rebound piston ring has distinct shiny spots indicating the teflon coating has worn away there is nothing wrong with it. I have these forks, 100 hrs and the rings are fine. The lack of response from the adjusters is from the huge amount of free bleed in the system. If a big change was noticed after a disassembly/reassembly. I would suspect something went wrong there to introduce more bleed, like a misplaced shim. If the midvalve stack/checkplate is sticking or for whatever reason not sealing on the piston face, forget rebound control. Don't sweat the piston rings, go back to where you were last and see what happened.

This fork works real well with a proper spring rate, little preload, a reasonable compression stack with no free bleed, and a lot more rebound.

I have now fitted the new rebound piston rings and put everything back to standard settings including the shim stacks.
As recommended in the Marzocchi manual i have filled up with 7.5 w oil with a 90mm air gap.

First impressions on winding the rebound fully in i can feel resistance on the up stroke. Winding fully out the fork definitely rebounds quicker. This is the same for the compression.

Before there was absolutely no difference when this was tried.

I believe there is definitley an improvement.

Although I know it is on a different scale, but , the ohlins on my 300 goes almost rock hard when clickers are wound in.

Have a ride out at the weekend and see how it goes but i have high hopes that this has solved my problem.

I will try to post some pictures of the old rebound piston rings for ya all to google at. Lookin at them they are definitely worn but the teflon coating is still on although there are some gold specs reflecting. The new rings measured up almost exactly the same but the coating was noticably duller. If that makes sense.

One thing here confuses me. You say you have now put in 7.5w oil, to a height of 90mm. Earlier in this thread you had done a strip down and put in 10w oil to a height of 130(or something). Those 2 variables alone could make a huge difference. I have found 7.5 to be a good oil in these forks. Filled to 90mm sounds a bit high to me, it will work fine but may feel pretty firm near the end of the travel.
What I'm thinking is that maybe the original level of 130mm was too low, and the ring thing is just a wild goose chase
