I have some pics here from when I did mine. I removed the SA and butted the core up and into the end cap for a very professional looking finish. A band saw would have been best to get a clean straight cut, but with a little measuring, marking and patience I got a pretty good result with a hacksaw. No welding required, just some new packing and a smear of some high temp silicone.

Its a little louder but far from loud/obnoxious, I made no jetting changes, and spooge went from ozzing down the can and leaking from the join at the stinger all over the swingarm to just an oily ring at the end cap.
