Good choice! I didn't figure it should be retired yet.

Agree. I did the same to my 2006 EC200. I also swapped the fork for a KYB SSS and am very happy with the overall result.

There are several threads here about this conversion. For all the details, search around in the forum, or start at this thread:
http://www.gasgasrider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14850

In my case, it involved a unused pair of legs from a 08 YZ250F, secondhand triple clamps, caliper bracket, and front axle from a 2010 YZ250F.
With other steering bearings the YZF triple clamps suits the Gasgas frame well.
To make the Gasgas front wheel fit, you must either use a custom made caliper bracket or a custom made brake disk. I chose to make a 250mm disk for the GG wheel. You also need to turn some spacers / replace wheel bearings to suit the Yamaha front axle which is thinner than the GG. If you use a complete front end including wheel from the YZF its even easier (although more expensive).

In addition, you should make some sort of steering lock, and you might need to make up a bracket to adapt the GG fender to the Yamaha lower triple.

To wrap it all up, I installed Racetech Gold Valves in the forks, tuned to suit my weight, age and (lack of) speed.
