Default Dumb question

I have Aero Flex bars on my bike. I'm looking to put a riser on the bar to bring them up 1".

One thing I noticed, the center rod that goes between the grips, as support, is in the way.

Since I am not racing the bike and won't have huge jumps and really hard landings, can I remove this? I need more room to move my controls down a bit and put the brush guards back on.

Are they 1 1/8" bars? If so, I'd say that it's fine to remove the bar, I've heard of many people doing that with Renthal Twinwalls to make them a little less rigid. If they are 7/8" bars, I don't think I'd trust them without the crossbar.
