Two strokes are allowed to run in the existing rules. The petion is for increasing the displacement to 300cc in the 450 class.
A 250 two stroke can be made to out run a 450 4 stroke. The big 4 don't see it that way. The petition is written wrong- rule 3.1 has nothing to do with displacement. That is rule 2.1. AMA 2010 SX rule book states: 2.1 Engines a. Engine Displacements: 150 – 250cc 2-stroke 249 – 450cc 4-stroke b. Material and castings of the cylinders, cylinder heads and crankcases must be the same as the originally approved model. Material may be added or removed from these items 3.1 Competition Licenses a. All riders participating in any on-track practice, qualifying or racing must have a valid AMA Racing and/or FIM World Championship Motocross license of the appropriate classification. b. Licenses are not issued at the racetrack. For riders who wish to subscribe to an AMA license, it is recommended that processing of the license be completed through the AMA Racing office 30 days before the first event you wish to participate in. |
