Default 2011 300EC 6D Stator Pic

Anyone have a pic of an unmolested stator to show where the wires go?

I'm trying to undo a previous owners "handiwork" Looked at images online, but nothing solid?

Thanks!

This might help. It's a bit grubby, the loctite on my flywheel weight let go and changed to powder. After cleaning it up and using higher strength loctite, I switched to a "wet" installation. That keeps the bendix lubricated from the spray off the flywheel. I use about 125ml of oil poured in from the starter opening. Works well.

I can get better pics if you need them. The engine is out and the stator is hanging from the frame so it's easy to do.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, it helped. I see what the previous owner did. Using your pic as I am not by the bike at the moment..

PO added windings & cut the winding wire off the lug at (fig 1)
Extended the winding wire & soldered to lug at (fig 2)
I just have to figure out where the open / cut winding wire at (fig 3)

Thanks again!

Man, what a mess. I wonder what that guy was thinking?

The black single winding is the exciter that provides AC power to the CDI. It has red/black and red/white wires that travel around before exiting the stator. These wires go behind the other windings to anchor onto some plastic keepers. This is done just to keep them clear of the spinning flywheel. The red/black only just shows up in the photo.

The black unit at the upper right corner is the CDI trigger (called the impulse coil in the workshop manual). It has red and green wires (not visible in the photo).

The lug at 5:30 in the photo is the ground point for the lighting windings. Each winding (visible copper) is wound around it's own post and each post is wound in opposite direction to it's neighbour. The yellow wire taps off at ~85% output, the white wire is the full output of all lighting windings.

While the white wire sits close to the yellow wire, the actual windings travel all the way up and then come back to the post where the white wire attaches. They do not show up in the photo because they sit underneath the plastic covered wires.

If the PO cut the copper wire at the ground lug, maybe he was trying to isolate the lighting output from frame ground. This allows for the use of a full wave rectifier where one side of the rectifier output is grounded. If so the prior grounded copper wire would be attached to a new wire that would exit with the other stator wires. In an extreme case, the yellow wire would be lifted from it's post and connected to that previously grounded copper wire. Thus isolated lighting output would happen on the yellow and white wires. This would avoid having to fish a new wire from the stator.

And be careful working with the copper wire. It's clear insulation is very fragile.

Thanks for your effort Neil. Yes, the PO isolated the stator ground to make a D/P bike out of it too. He added a Tusk trail lighting kit w/battery & purchased all the parts to add an electric starter too, but just made a mess out of the harness.

It's unsightly & it keeps me up at night

I want to bring it back to its former glory, so I'm fixing what I can & I'll put a new harness on it.

I soldered the ground winding back into its original place & noticed that the lugs under the white & yellow wires have a small tab where the coil windings terminate. The one with the yellow wire was missing the coil winding so I assume that's where it is supposed to go? All soldered up, it ohms out in the ballpark so I think I did it right.

We'll know in a few weeks time when I finish it up.

Connecting to the lug with the yellow wire sounds correct to me. Show us a photo of the bike when it's done.
