Default Looking for input....

so... i now own an 07 mc250 and an 01 ec300.. really like both bikes, but i can only ride one at time... of course i would like the best of both bikes in one....

the 01 300.. love the low end power, 18'" rear wheel, not so much on the forks 43mm wp's, but the rear ohlins is great..

the 07 250.. love the suspension, both ends, the strg dampner.. power is very usable, but for sure not the 300.. have put a fww on it and that helped a ton..

we ride primarily technical single track "goat trail" trail rides and are just a bunch of old trail riders..

so my thoughts.. swap top ends between the 2 bikes.. easiest, quickest way to have both power and suspension... but will still have the 19 " rear.. could swap rear wheels, but the 01 is a u rim bike.. the fronts , from what i have read will not swap between those bikes, without swapping forks.. i think the rears will...

my main concern doing that is if i then try to sell the 01... it is numbered as a 300, but it wont be.. that alone may scare buyers away.. not that there are people lining up to buy those bikes anyway...

any input ?

I'm pretty sure the front hubs are the same so take the bearings, spacers, and axel out of one and put them in the other wheel.

Yes, I have done this as well and so has roostafish. Minor difference in hub casting but it does not affect bearing/seal seating dimmension. Newer bearings for '07 axel are a few mm thinner so when you seat seals flush with hub there is more of a gap internally to bearing. No problem, just pack with grease.

If I could only have one bike it would be a 250 like I do now. I don't want to race a 300, but for trail ridng like you describe I would go with it.

Refresh the 300 top end and put it on the 250. Be warned, it might be an animal with the MC250 CDI, so you might want to swap the old 300 CDI in as well as the reed spacer. There may be some differences in the power valve governer spring preload especially considering they are six years apart, but ride it first and see. "U" rims are great, very strong, I'd swap those as well as long as they are in good shape.

gotcha... both bikes are way cool.. my 01 was a neat story.. bought it from a friend of mine who tried the gg biness back in 2000-2002.. this was a shop bike that never got rode. i bought it in 08, original purchaser on the mso.. it is very low hourd bike.. neat scoot.. it is a close to a new gg as i will probably every get..still had the tits on the oe tires..
the mc250 is a blast to ride.. I feel I am alot faster trail rider on the 250..
luckily right now, with the deal ggman made me on the 250, i can keep them both..

something i noticed this weekend.. the 01 wheel fits just as described.. but.. the 07 wheel with the 01 brgs will not fit the 01..
need to do some research and get a narrower brg to put in them..

I have a set of u-rims for my 2011 as well. They are off of an 03. They fit just fine. You should just be able to order the norrower bearing to go to the older bike with the newer wheels.
