Default Power Valve Vent Tube??

Guys, just a quick question.

I noticed that the black vent tube coming out of the power valve cover (left side of barrel) on my bike was closed off at the end. I cut it open and some black goo dripped out for about 20 sec

Is this vent supposed to be normally open? I have left it open. Bike is new with 6 hrs on the clock. Maybe dealer forgot to cut it open??

Thanks for any response!

Cheeers

It is just a drain tube to allow PV spooge to drain off...leave it open.
They must close it off for shipping reasons.

Mine also arrived closed off, I have also left it open and still see some spooge dripping out from time to time, figured why have a breather and then close it off!

I went to Woodridge college just outside PE for a couple of years, and if i had to (with a gun held to my head!) live in SA that would probably be my country of choice, but yes I love my GG in swaziland, unfortunately it is making the hills lower and flatter!

just read this interesting article on the ggpacific website and at the bottom they state that you should open and drain the PV via the vent tube after riding, maybe there is a reason to keep it closed and only open it to drain it?

http://gasgaspacific.com/articles_details.php?a_id=4

I did not notice any differences when riding with it open or closed, and most bikes have them open

I'm still not sure how water got into my motor and toasted the right side crank bearing shortly after walking the bike across an almost seat deep fast moving river. (with engine off and cooled down) Wasn't thru the airbox, or carb area. I'm suspecting either the pv drain (open hose) or vent (routed up by the top of the rad).
I think I'm going to start closing the drain and keep an eye on it.

Mine was closed also on my 2010 but I was given a heads up by a member on this site. Maybe we should have a what to do check list sticky on setting up new bikes.

FYI~ Route that hose up to where the gas tank vent goes. Then get one of those short gas cap vent hoses for the tank.
