Default rieju mr300 vs 17 ktm, are the counter balance engines worth the extra money

i want to buy a 2 stroke for comuteing and travelling.
i have an old mz301 and a ktm 450.
for the price the rieju looks like a fantastic deal in my country.
but since i'm doing a lot of road miles, i want to ad that comfort of the counter balance, if it noticable.
i have experience with dirt bikes on roads, 50/50 tires and rim balancing +steering dumper, works for me preety well.
then i'll look for 17-18 carb exc 300.

thanks a lot

Buy a roadbike with road tyres. These are competition bikes with service intervals.

Yep! Having commuted on one before out of necessity it is not fun after the first tank.

Default Is it such a difference from the 4 stroke?

I have a lot of experience with 4 stroke sm es a commuter.
End i have the same experience with old 2 stroke.
So why it is not a good option?
Is it that a big difference from the old 2 strokes, like the mz 301?

I see no reason to not use any 2T for commuting if you know what your getting in to. Hell, I use to commute on an old Yamaha RD350. That thing would make my hands numb after about 40 miles but I loved it. I also commuted to work on my '90 Kawasaki KDX200 but it was a rather short ride. That would have sucked if I had to ride more than a few miles on it IMO.

To your question, the counter balancer engines are really smooth, but not game changing, but that's my personal opinion. Plus, you could add something like the Mako 360 or BRP bar mounting system to help reduce vibration on a Reiju if it becomes an issue. Of course, you can add those same systems to a counter balanced KTM to make it even smoother! I say try to find someone with the bikes you're interested in and see if you can ride them and compare. Only you can decide what will work for you in the end.

The MZ301 is simple air cooled 2T with a sleeved engine. It's low stressed and very docile compared to a modern offroad 2T. The MZ will tolerate long periods at steady throttle. The modern 2T will feel totally out of it's element. You can commute on a modern 2T, but it won't be a pleasant ride like the old 2T machines used to provide.

I did many miles on Japanese 2T machines in the 60s and 70s. That's what you rode if you didn't own an English bike.
