Default DE and EC flywheel weight

I know the DE's used to be called XC's and to me that says the bike might be similar to a KTM XC of old that had the mx flywheel. Does the DE have a lighter flywheel than the EC model? I am not looking for four stroke power delivery or I would not have just sold my four stroke. However I don't want an MX bike that will stall in the woods very easily.

Greg

Yes, The DE has the lighter flywheel and ingition from the mx bike, however that doen't, make it an mx bike. I think you will be happy with the power delivery of the DE.

I have an '01 XC300 and a '06 EC300.

The XC is the earlier version of the DE with a lighter flywheel and 35W coil. The EC has a significantly larger flywheel and 100W coil.

The XC has a very light flywheel. Since I ride much of the year in greasy wet clay, rocks and roots, I like a lot of flywheel to get good traction. I added a 14 oz flywheel weight to my XC300 and it still has less total flywheel than the EC300.

I have not noticed any downside with a larger flywheel where I ride. Both the XC300 and EC300 with heavy flywheels have plenty of snap, even in sand.

If you really want snap without stalling, then install a Rekluse on a DE. You may spin a lot in slippery conditions, but you will not have to worry about stalling.

So what will the 2007 300 Gasssers be DE, XC, or EC in the USA? I like lights for trails, decent non-eco tires, and a spark arrestors stock would be nice...

Thanks!

Did you sell your TC450 already?

The DE uses a lighter FWW than the Euro/CDN spec ECs.

You can add the EC FWW to the DE fairly easy.

I have both ignitions and a 10 oz weight. I run the weight on the smaller flywheel (2K-2). With the G2 throttle, this is very good. Good control, but with serious snap when you need it, perhaps just a bit too much if its real slick. The heavy ignition is great in the slop, but in the sand on a 250, it doesn't respond to the clutch like the smaller flywheel. The 14 oz weight on the smaller flywheel is probably the best overall combo, and I plan to pick up a 14 oz. I had this on my '00 XC250 and it worked great.

What are the acutal weights of the DE and EC fly wheels? And how much converted weight is there in the rotational mass of the 35w and 100w stators?

Once upon a time, there were 3 bikes....
A baby bike with XC ignition,
A momma bike with XC ignition + flywheel weight,
and a papa bike with EC ignition.

The rest of the story can be read here:

Personally I'm not a fan of adding flywheel weights or using a G2 throttle. I have an 07 EC250 Six Days edition which has the 2k-2 ignition. I'm running 13/50 gearing and Tire Balls in my tires and never have spinning issues. My 01 EC200 also had the 2k-2 ignition in it and I found it would spin since it didn't have the bottom end of the 250.

I have a G2 throttle but run the stock 100 cam and I also have a 14 oz FWW that I don't use. I tried the 200 cam on the throttle but the lag time was too much when I wanted to get on the gas hard. I've learned to just use very good throttle control on the tight stuff. Again, I don't want to lose the instantanious response which is why I don't use the flywheel weight.

Running the 2k-2 ignition and the light flywheel lets the bike rev with the best of them (it'll run with any 250 motocrosser on the mx track) but it still has enduro roots and can ride the gnarly stuff no problem.

I have the EC flywheel on my bike now. Is there a big difference between the EC and DE for stalling resistance?
