Default Opinions On Purchase

I'm in the market for a cheap 2T bike and came across this Gas Gas: http://cleveland.craigslist.org/mcy/4827836399.html

I've always wanted one and think this may be my ticket. Sight unseen my offer was $1500 to which he accepted... I'm going to check this out next week. If everything checks out, how do you all feel $1500 is on price?

One concern I have is parts. If I ever needed to do a bottom end rebuild, where could I source the crank and bearings?

Thanks!

Congrats (assuming everything checks out) and welcome to the forum! Personally, I think that's a great price for the bike given the new top end, bearings, etc.

You should not have an issue sourcing crank/bearings/seals/etc; search around for a local dealer. There are also several dealers on here that go out of their way to help folks - quick search of the engine sub-forum should help. On that note, there's a ton of knowledge here too - lots of people who have years of experience with the GG brand. I would still be testing jetting scenarios if Jakobi, firffighter, and several others hadn't pointed me in the right direction

She's a good looking bike, be sure to post up your thoughts once you've had a chance to take her out to the woods

Appreciate the quick response... I found the part #'s on GG website but searches bring up nothing. I have to assume the used parts from Jap bikes on these older gassers, its just finding which.

That bike was for sale last spring listed for $1500 and I passed it up. The owner wanted to get a true motocross bike. I passed then because I had a hard time finding info & parts for it on-line... Then I found this place and had my eyes opened.

I've kicked myself ever since for passing it up. Don't be like me

So it was listed last year and didn't sell...

A little concerning.

If you go to the main page of this site there is a crossover chart. The connecting rod is the same as older cr250 and 250r quads. Also I called that guy about he same bike a few weeks ago and I think he is prepared to take quite a bit less. I would offer $1200

Yeah that's a bit high for that one but I doesn't look like it has been ridden much.

Ya my thing is, its 11 years old and he's not sure if its had any motor work done. It sure is pretty on the outside but its the inside that worries me.

For all I know it could be the original top end.

I don't know if this is feasible, but how about borrowing a compression tester from a local shop?

I'd be hesitant if the current owner doesn't know if any work's been done to the motor, regardless of how good a deal it is. Still blows my mind that owners don't install hour meters, be even better if GG had something stock from the factory that tracked time. I'd have no clue about maintenance intervals without an hour meter

Good luck tracking a bike down, I ended up getting our 2nd 200 from a dealer in Colorado and had it shipped; also found a great 250 for my brother-in-law in TN and had it shipped too (with lots of help from gasser on this board ).
