Hey guys,
After scolling through pages and pages of threads for certain suspension settings I thought it may be benificial to start up a database on suspension. I am not sure how well this will work but time and entries will tell. There is so much involved and no doubt I will overlook something so if you think of anything else let me know. I know everyone i sdifferent and we all like different settings but if we all have our settings in one place and say exactly what has been done at least we have a starting point for someone to look at with regards to weights ,setups etc. Lets see how it goes. I will insert mine after this trip I am about to go on as they will probably be different to what they are now. All you need to do is copy the list below, ( sorry about the length), and then paste it into your reply. Hopefully this will help someone in the future... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Weight of Rider = Year of bike = Type of bike = Type of Forks = Type of Shocks = Fork spring rate = Shock spring rate = Bike and Rider Sag Settings: Front bike sag (without rider) = Front rider sag = Rear bike sag (without rider) = Rear rider sag = All Clicker settings are from fully wound clockwise... Fork rebound clicker = Fork Compression clicker = Fork/Shock Valving (Stock or Revalved) = Shock (high speed..outer dial) setting = Shock (low speed ..inner screw) setting = Shock rebound( linkage screw) setting = Fork oil weight and brand (if known) = Fork oil air gap( to top of fork) = New or old oil (recently changed??) = Results : Type of riding you do = How you like your suspension to feel = Fast or slow rider (be honest) = -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks again guys , I am not sure how to put this all in a database as the list is so long but we will see how we go. Cheers Mark ![]() Last edited by MattR; 04-16-2009 at 07:42 PM. Reason: Added sag settings to go with the spring rate information. Also, add valving type (stock or revalved). |

Weight of rider: 175lbs
Bike: 2007 EC250 Six Days edition Forks: Ohlins 48mm Shock: Ohlins Fork springs: 0.45 Shock spring: 5.6 Can't remember the rest of the settings right now, I'll check tonight. I ride technical trails, grass track, ISDE style stuff, some motocross, pretty much everything. I like my suspension to feel solid. I prefer it to be a little harsh in order to maintain control. The faster I hit stuff, the better my suspension works (well, except at the desert 100 - I bottomed it out a few times down there). I race the A class up here in Canada. Moving up to AA/Pro next year. |

Weight of Rider = 165 lbs (naked), approx. 185 lbs with gear.
Year of bike = 2007 Type of bike = EC250 Type of Forks = Marzocchi Type of Shocks = Sachs Fork spring rate = 0.42 (stock) Shock spring rate = 5.2 (stock) Bike and Rider Sag Settings: Front bike sag (without rider) = 35mm Front rider sag = 50mm sitting, 58mm standing Rear bike sag (without rider) = 49mm Rear rider sag = 110mm sitting, 105mm standing All Clicker settings are from fully wound clockwise... Fork rebound clicker = 6 clicks out Fork Compression clicker = 6 clicks out Fork/Shock Valving (stock or revalved) = Revalved by Hall's Cycle for tight woods riding. Shock (high speed..outer dial) setting = 6 clicks out Shock (low speed ..inner screw) setting = 10 clicks out Shock rebound( linkage screw) setting = 11 clicks out Fork oil weight and brand (if known) = Spectro 5wt. Fork oil air gap( to top of fork) = 100 mm New or old oil (recently changed??) = New, recently changed. Results : Type of riding you do = Michigan singletrack, tight woods with some open whoop sections. Soil varies from sand, medium sized rocks, tree roots, and dirt/mud. How you like your suspension to feel = Soft to soak up the rocks & roots. Need decent bottom resistance for whoop section at speed. My suspension was revalved by previous owner. I would describe it as Soft and tend to increase clicker settings to compensate. Fast or slow rider(be honest) = I would be a fast C-class or slower B-class rider by Michigan standards.

Weight of Rider = 275
Year of bike = 2000 Type of bike = XC250 Type of Forks = WP 43's Type of Shocks = Ohlins Fork spring rate = .46 Shock spring rate = 5.8 Bike and Rider Sag Settings: don't remember, set it per GG/Ohlins recomendations, came out perfect with the stiffer springs for my weight. Front bike sag (without rider) = Front rider sag = Rear bike sag (without rider) = Rear rider sag = All Clicker settings are from fully wound clockwise... Fork rebound clicker = 14 Fork Compression clicker = 17 Fork/Shock Valving (Stock or Revalved) = both revalved by LTR Shock (high speed..outer dial) setting = n/a Shock (low speed ..inner screw) setting = 18 Shock rebound( linkage screw) setting = 18 Fork oil weight and brand (if known) = 7w Putoline Fork oil air gap( to top of fork) = don't remeber, found on GGRC forum somewhere. New or old oil (recently changed??) = broke in, almost service time. Results : Type of riding you do = mostly single track. Some desert. How you like your suspension to feel = softer than this but... if riding aggresively this works very well for my weight as far as resisting bottoming and it actually becomes pretty plush at speed. It is almost uncomfortably stiff when sitting down trail riding over roots and rocks with slow riders. Fast or slow rider (be honest) = compared to most riders on this site?? Slow. I consider myself medium.

Hi,
Here are my best settings with the stock valving. Trouble is, each track needs it's own setting, and if it's dry and grippy or slow and slippery the clicks differ a lot. I'm about to start messing with revalving to see if the suspension can better stay up in the stroke, feel firmer overall but be ready to soak up big roots and rocks better. Weight of Rider = 190 nekkid Year of bike = 2007 Type of bike = EC300 Type of Forks = Zook 45's Type of Shock = Sachs Fork spring rate = .45 (up from .42 stock) Shock spring rate = 5.2 (stock) Bike and Rider Sag Settings: Front bike sag (without rider) = ? Front rider sag = ? Rear bike sag (without rider) = prolly 2cm Rear rider sag = 100mm (tried 105, sorry but it understeers terribly) All Clicker settings are from fully wound clockwise... Fork rebound clicker = 12 Fork Compression clicker = 15 (wet/slow/big rocks), 14 (dry/big rocks), 13 (dry/whoops), 8 (MX) Fork/Shock Valving (Stock or Revalved) = stock Shock (high speed..outer dial) setting = 1.5 Shock (low speed ..inner screw) setting = 9 (wet/slow/big rocks), 8 (dry/big rocks), 8 (dry/whoops), 3 (MX) Shock rebound( linkage screw) setting = 20 Fork oil weight and brand (if known) = 5W Shell Fork oil air gap( to top of fork) = 140mm New or old oil (recently changed??) = new. Change about each 2 months. Results : Type of riding you do = 1st/2nd snot/slow rocks & roots, 2nd/3rd/4th dry rocks & sandy whoops, sandy MX tracks. How you like your suspension to feel = 80% enduro, 20% MX. Firm and steady so it can handle grass tests, landing from MX jumps and ledges, confidence at speed. Needs to handle whoops and G-outs, needs to handle big rocks and roots at slow speeds. Fast or slow rider (be honest) = advanced beginner, intermediate in a year or two.
