Default Rear Brake Cooling Fins

I have a bad habit of riding my rear brake too much and it has been overheating. I'm trying to change my riding style, but I also added some cooling fins that seem to help delay rear brake fade. The fin is a really a single piece of 1/8" x 1.5" aluminum bent into a "U" shape and JB-Welded to the rear brake caliper. The JB Weld is a metalized epoxy and the heat conducts well across the glue joint. It definitely keeps the rear brake cooler.

I epoxied on a small one inch by one inch heat sink from radio shack.. can get them for like 5-6 bucks glue it on just like you did with the u shape piece and you'll never overheat the brakes again..

Solid rotor with organic pads, no problems even in south Jersey, with a lot of tail dragging around tight trees. Sintered pads conduct a lot of heat back to the caliper.

I agree that organic pads are better and I just ordered a pair from Go Fasters. My GG 300 is jetted "crisp" and I use the rear brake to modulate the power delivery. Because of the abrupt power band it's been getting quite a work out. I can get squeaking and honking in the first 15 minutes of a ride and then the brakes are no longer progressive, they just lock up. After I installed the fins (with stock sintered pads) they squeal but remain somewhat progressive.

I installed a DP 1601R rear brake rotor on my bike and the rear brake no longer overheats even with sintered pads. This rotor is from a KTM 950 Adventure and is much thicker than the stock Galfer rotor. It's heavier, but it really works! If you're having trouble with squeaking rear brakes that overheat, give this rotor a try.

The GasGas factory solid rotor is very good if you can find one. The Moose solid for a KTM fits as well and is very thick. A good solid is all I need, they can keep all the waves, slots, and holes. I have a stack of take off Swiss cheese rotors.
