Congrats on the new bike. It looks like a 2000 model and is in good shape for it's age. Happy Trails!

I was thinking a 99 being that it has 45mm Zokes. But the flywheel cover looks like it is plastic, vise mag like on the older bikes. Maybe a early 00? Looks like in pretty good shape. Your son should have a good time on that.

the bike is a 2000... he had to work today, but i took it with me and went about 30 minutes earlier and spent some time on it... seems to all be ok.
i hear a flutter at idle i did not notice yesterday, but it is very fast.
he is ready to ride it for sure
thanks guys

Jay,

Do yourself a favor, change the oil in those forks. The 45mm Zokes can be SUPER plush, and work really well over rough terrian. The sliders are soft aluminum and fork oil gets dirty / contaminated really fast.

Looking forward, if you are planing on keeping the bike you might want to convert the forks to USD 43 Zokes or WP's, worth the time and effort.

Have fun and good luck

will do.. it is getting a tear down and fluid change anyway.
do they recomd 5 wt fork oil ??? and capacity ??

and if i find a set of usd, do i need new clamps.

any thought on the "flutter" noise. it is only at idle so i would think it is pv.
it has already been changed to the yz kick starter, did that to my 300 last week and that is a great change.

the guy that sold this bike new told me there were a bunch of changes done to this bike. I am gonna have to pin him down as to what.
thanks
jay

Generally the Marzocchi's take 7.5wt oil. You can put different weights in each leg as one controls the compression and one the rebound. Personally I would be in no hurry to put USD WP forks on it. It is also good you have the fork boots on to protect the seals and fork sliders. While not the best looking they do a great job of protecting the legs and making the seals live allot longer. I have them as well on my 97 KTM with the 50mm Marzocchi's.

If you feel inspired while the forks are apart do this modification which improves the overall action and lessens diving.

I did that mod on my '96 KTM EXC300 and they were so nice after. Worth the time to do it.
