Default fork question

i got a 01 ec125 and im not sure what forks i have and they need a rebuild, well maybe not a rebuild but they need to be taken care off. the seal on the right leg has popped out halfway and oil has leaked out slowly.

any idea of what type of forks are those? will get better pictures tomorrow

They are WP43s, easy to do a seal job on. That bike looks awfully familiar, just like my nephew's old bike. Where are you located?

Small world, especially the GG world. You bought that bike from my brother Craig. Thats a good bike, I personally rebuilt the motor from the bottom up a few years ago and it has seen little time since. My nephew went like hell on that thing, didn't race much but when he did he was awesome. I wanted that bike for a 144 project but he wanted to sell it faster than I was ready.

Probably due for seals, sitting is the worst thing for that. I did all the suspension service on the bike too.

If you want to ride sometime let me know, I'll show you where its been.

oh small world hahaha
i bought the bike in excellent condition, when my brother and I went to look at it we were shocked how clean it was for a 01'.
so you basically know the whole bike in and out haha
i'd be very interested to go see what the bike has been through, i just have to get a bit better on handling it before i do that.

so here is what happened

guess i will need this

what about a diy write up on how to replace it? do you know of any?
Thanks

you can get seals from a us seller - no need to buy from overseas..

the vids at rocky mountain atv are excellent. no special tools are needed, aside from snap ring pliers... there are work arounds for everything else.

and

what they don't mention in the vids:
make a note of where the top adjuster is, and then back off the top adjuster all the way out before you open it up. when you reinstall the rod, make sure it is all the way down in (flush). if it's not it'll not work...

Those cheap seals are junk. Get a good seal/wiper kit like SKF.

Its pretty gnarly up here. Get some seat time in and used to the bike first.

The earlier Synergy seal design requires a very specific install procedure, which the instructions did not clearly describe.

As a result the seals leaked right away. I had to buy another set after talking to Synergy seals and getting the real details on how install them correctly to prevent damage.

Bottom line - poor instructions, costly (2 sets to get it right), they have held up quite well.

Caveat - their newer designs may be different.
