Countershaft sprocket shim

Hey all,

So, what type of shim should I use for the countershaft to minimize movement of the front sprocket? Where can I get one once I get the measurements? Will the thin metal washers that are used on the rear linkage work?? They seem prone to corrosion though.

are you trying to shim it outboard to the sprocket - to load against the circlip??

Presuming the inside to keep the seal tight - which side is typically shimmed to accomplish that?

the seal is press fit, and shouldn't go anywhere. is everything right in there? seal, bushing and 2 o-rings. is your seal pushing out? it's all splash lubrication in there, i would think the only way the seal would push out is if there is extra pressure in there (leaking centercase gasket, or maybe waterpump seal?)

Hmmm - well, not sure it is pressing out necessarily. I just saw that GMP recommended this if you're changing things out. I also heard that people tend to shim it if they are using the iron man sprockets, as they are slightly thinner - at least on the KTMs this is the case. The difference in thickness of the iron man to a Renthal looked negligible. I didn't put a caliper on them, but put them on a level surface, and put a level across them. Interesting points - what about overfill in the crankcase??

i don't shim the ironman sprocket - haven't had an issue, although gmp has a point..

overfill crankcase would probably cause pressure too, but you'd have to really really overfill it....
