Default FAQ : Which ignition do I have?

Question : In the United States, enduro models come equiped as either EC models or DE models. The EC models have larger ignitions and the DE models have smaller ignitions. How can I tell which one is installed in my bike?

Answer : The two ignitions available are the kokusan 2k-2 and the kokusan 2k-3. The 2k-2 is rated to generate 40 watts of power, whereas the kokusan 2k-3 is rated to generate 110 watts of power. In reality they generate about 35 and 85 watts, respectively. Determining which ignition is installed on your bike can be done by simply examining the left side of the engine. The wires for the 2k-2 ignition exit the engine cases at the 10:00 position, whereas the wires for the 2k-3 ignition exit the engine cases at the 2 o'clock position.

Any more I should add here?

For the 2002 and earlier bikes, the XC designation is equivalent to the current DE models in terms of ignitions. In 2003, the EC line was "reintroduced" to the US after the change in distributors from Don Knight (GGNA) to the factory sponsored GGMA.

Here are photos of the different ignitions. 2K-3 is the larger 2K-3 ignition found on Euro ECs. 2K-2post is the smaller 2K-2 ignition found on the DEs and older XCs. In this photo there is a 10oz flywheel weight attached.

Hello,
I buy few time ago cross ignition wlywheel and cdi model2006, the problem is how to instal, because CDI are cross and enduro are same, and when I look for intsal new flywheel, there position are completly different, so I think advance ignition are too much different.
Somebody can explain how to put in the good position, and how many degres before top I must put?
Thank's!!!!

Look at the 2K-2 picture in the Sticky. You will notice a semi-circular cutout in the stator plate form the 12 o'clock position to approximately the 2 o'clock position. In this area, you will see an unused M5 hole in the case (used for the 2K-3) very close to the edge of the cutout. Install a short M5 capscrew and small M5 flat washer. Snug down. Now, rotate the stator plate counter clockwise until it contacts the edge of the washer. Tighten the stator plate M6 bolts. This is where you want to be with the timing.

BTW, so your not confused, for this description "cross ignition" is the 2K-2.

"2K-2" and "2K-3" are Kokusan part #s or types, not GasGas #s. The "cross" ignition may even be a 2K-1, which is a 2K-2 with no lighting coil. Same flywheel and stator plate, and the referance I described will work fine to get the bike timed VERY close.

In reality, cross rotor stator is powerless only 40w than 110w for enduro, the weight of cross is:1.146 pounds than 1.984 for enduro, and mesure:3.031inch for cross, and enduro one is the X2.
We talk about exactly the same think but the name is different so your 2k-2 is cross rotor+stator.
I didn't know how to put picture of it, can I send you photographi of it

Thank's, but it not answer at all, because as I remenber, when you install light rotor+stator, it look wrong ignition advance, if you look the posittion of the sensor and magnetic, and compare to standart one, it look completly wrong advance.
So if I understood correctly, I have to put stator with sensor down on left, and wire on up left, and it will be approixmatly good.
right?
