They came with my bike. Totally ridiculous, the stock airbox is a screen door.

I fixed a lot of that. When I install the alloy subframe I'll do more still, like extend the sides higher in the front.

After my first muddy run of the season, i was amazed at the amt of mud in my airbox . I have since sealed it up with butyl tape and extra strength duct tape...aswell as some foam. Sealing much better now and keeping back waaaay more crap out of the airbox. I also taken the rear upper fender off and sealed the lip between the two fenders, aswell as the lower fender seam that connects the airbox to that lower fender.. I ve added regular foam between the tank and the seat just infront of the airbox aswell and directly opposite of that sits another piece of foam that inhibits any dirt or water from dripping down from the rear fender cavity into the airbox. So far, all has worked well and still lots of breathability for the carb.

You got it right! I'm into the alloy upgrade now, and will silicone seal the big gaps between the inner fender slots and the subframe brackets. Also looking at best way to extend the sides and front higher. One of the biggest PIAs of this bike is washing it without flooding it! Once that is solved it will be a lot easier and faster to clean up.
If you have not done so yet, remove that little rubber check valve thing on the bottom of the airbox, it will clog and can flood your motor! Stuff a piece of foam in the well over the hole to allow any water that might get in to drain through but stop dirt from going up and in. |

Did that too. Tossed that duck billed platypus rubber nipple right in the woods. Formed qnd fitted a piece of foam down there. As for washing....i also had. The same problem with water getting in...not anymore w the sealing steps. But ive also started using the plastic air box cover that replaces the actual air filter. A buddy gave me his that he used on his 06 300 and so far it has worked well to keep any and all water from seeping into the airbox towards the the carb.

I have another buddy whe used one of those on a KTM and it leaked without him knowing it. Bike sat for two weeks with a little water in the crankcase, end result, rusted mains. Stuff a rag in the boot behind it just in case.

Yea, just don't forget to remove the rag before you start your bike. I did that once on a buddy's super pro car, it wasn't pretty!

Yeah, but in this case if you forget the rag you will also forget the cover, so no go!
