Default 2001 Gas Gas EC250 Rear Spring

Ok.. I have searched through a few posts and pretty much determined what my front and rear springs should be for me (240lbs).

Installed the front springs this weekend when replacing the fork seals and now I am really noticing the rear suspension.

So I have been trying to find who makes a rear spring for my bike and it seems Enduro Engineering has some springs listed for Ohlins shocks on their GasGas product page but I can't figure out if it would fit my model year.

Alright have the spring and now I am taking the shock off the bike to replace the spring. I ready quite a few threads on rear shock removal but most of them were for later model bikes - mine is a 2001.

I ended up removing the gas tank to get at the top bolt of the shock. is that fairly common? I did not see it mentioned in the other threads but I could not really get at it without pulling the tank.

Loosened up the bottom bolts on the linkage and shock then stopped for the day since it was getting dark out and I had our weekly Bike Night Event to attend.

Figure I will start on it again tomorrow and see how it goes.

Yes, you are on the right track. It just the nature of the beast. Might as well grease the linage while you are apart.

Well the tank is off and to get the top shock bolt out the subframe needs to come off or rolled back. Sort of taking it slow and checking out some things on the bike (my first GG). Overall it seems pretty easy to work on - just tight in some areas.

Colder than heck in Georgia tonight so I moved everything into my walk out basement.

Got the shock off the bike and I now see that the spring has a part number on it 596-09/50 038.

The part number on my invoice for the new spring is 59275-5.8. It does seem a tad bit shorter than the other one.

I am wondering if I got the right spring. Sent an email to Gofasters and either I will hear from them or the bike shop when they swap the springs.. or try too.
