Thanks for the reply!

I adjusted and checked so the PV wasnt sticking when I changed piston about 5 hours riding time ago but I will check it again to be sure I think about 1/4 of a turn is right if look at pictures of the PV from when I was wrenching. And it looks like it does close as it should which is critical for bottom end power right? I mean if it doesnt open as it should it would mainly affect the top end, right?

I see you have the same bike and year as me. What jetting and gearing are you running and how would you describe your bottom end torque? Do you need to use the clutch much to find power down low?

13/50 but req some clutch at times for sure, all part of the fun,im in NZ so jetting info may or not be useful.0-30C,70%humidity,0-1500ft,NECH#3 (1/2 clip leaner than NEDH#3,same taper)
42 pilot 175main,if its up around 30C the NEDH#2 is useful,40 pilot is decent also but i prefer 42,it lets you lug right down a little better
Bottom end-smooth progression,decent lugging ability(for a 200...)
How many hrs on your topend?total hrs?
Im around 170 total,1st topend 65-70,2nd time i went to 85hrs but felt like it lost a little @80

Did you use the same thickness base gaskets when you did your topend?
Has the problem been there since topend or developed since?
I dont have much exp with subzero temp!Lol
I tend to ride better without frozen hands/toes,although we occasionally get a few inchs of snow to play around in!

I got 3 different thicknesses and measured them and used the same thickness as the old one, dont remember the measurement tho. I only rode the bike a couple of times, mabye 2-3h, before changing the piston and going over the bike. At that time it was geared 12/48 also. I can?t really remember how it ran more then it was a bit blubbery and rich. I rode the same jetting as the old piston the first time I rode the new piston and I recall it running better then. But I also ran more open space at a higher speed so it might be a oil/spooge thing going on. The low torque bottom end started with the old jetting also.

Thanks for the jetting info. Its strange to me that I need to go down in pj size even in the cold weather. Snow riding is great! With good studded tires its often more grip and falling is soft

If you've been running Motul 800 for awhile in tight singletrack on a gasser300 you need to switch to a different oil (flashpoint below 100c /230f degrees) and replace the packing in your silencer. Do this before you do anything else otherwise you'll just be chasing your tail.

Its a 200 and I mainly ride slow singletrack. We have a good route outside of work so I get out at lunch for 30-45 min as often as I can and I rarely get out of second on that route. ut Im starting to think thats the problem also I couldnt find motul 710 locally so I just ordered a can and some new packing for the silencer. Really hope this solves the issue.

Sorry for some reason I thought you were on a 300. 200s don't get lugged like 300s so the flash point is less of an issue but I still wouldn't run motul 800. The shell advance vsx flashpoint is 132c degrees which is in the middle but the motul 710 is only about 90c degrees and work the best for tight single track.

I wouldn't expect much low end torque running 13/50 gearing.
Even the stock gearing 12/48 is very tall for single track.
12/50 is what I use, good for single track and still tops out at 78 mph.
Easy to try, think you will be much happier with the low end.

Thanks for the answers! It helps with the motivation

No problem gasser! Maby I overestimate the ?luggability? on my 200. Before I have had a YZ250 setup for woods and a couple of different brand 125:s for motocross so I dont have much reference. I noticed a bit less spooge with the shell oil so it will be interesting to see how the motul 710 works and in combination with new packing.

Hamilton: good point! I will try the 12 tooth sprocket again and report back on that.

I will try the different setups in steps so I know what makes a different for future reference.

Again thanks for the help!
