Default Transformation kits for 1997 ec 250

Hi I'm looking at getting a Transformation kit from the www.Motorcrosscenter.com for my 1997 ec250 it's the (Nambotin 2011 kit)
I understand from reading another post on these kits I will need to move the Coil in order for the new tank to fit but
I have also been told that I need to make a hole in the frame so the new
tank can attach properly, Im getting the 00-11 tank as recommended by the company
Has anyone done this modification to the frame? Pictures would be brilliant !

Cheers

The 00-02 tanks have a recess for the taller shock mount like your bike has. If you mount one of the newer tanks like lower profile 04 and newer you'll need a new hole to mount it by the steering neck and also trim down the bracing for the shock mount and add more in a different location since the newer tanks don't have the recess.

When you pull the tank you'll know what I mean. GG has a small frame work or brace built on top of the upper shock mount. You'll have to remove that to get the non recessed tank to sit low enough and weld some bracing back on elsewhere to strengthen it back up. Or just get a 00-02 tank with the recess built into the bottom of the tank.

I contacted the Motorcrosscenter asking about instructions to fit the kit and
This is what said

To change fuel tank when you will put the modification kit the only thing you have to do is a new hole in the frame (in the front part of the frame).

When you would do the modification if you have any problem or any doubt please send me a mail and we will try to help you.

Thanks.

Mikel.

That's great news, they must have changed the shape of the fuel tank so now I don't have to move the coil etc!

Nope, they haven't changed the shape of the tank. You will still need to cut the top rear shock bracing and move the coil. And if you are doing this to a 97' you will need to cut down the coolant mount on top of your head. It sticks up WAY to far on the 97's. The easiest thing to do is leave the bike like it is or if you are determined to do the kit. Get your self a cylinder and head of a later year.

I just did this to my wifes 97' so I have first hand knowledge.
Here is what you will need to do:
Cut/trim shock mount
move coil to side of frame
trim down coolant mount on top of head
Or find a new/used head and cylinder and replace.

It's not as easy as the later 1999 bikes and on. The cylinder and head are the biggest obstacles you will have. They are a different shape for that year. The spark plug is tilted sideways and the coolant mount is huge for some reason.

Oops, just ordered the tank ! , that sounds like a nightmare !
Cheers for letting me know, it's a bit out of order giving me advice saying all I would have to do is drill one hole !!!
My sub frame is falling apart, one of the reasons I was going for the kit , ok best drop them an e-mail, shame your wife's bike looks sweet , but I'm not doing the work myself, I'm getting the frame/ swing arm powder coated currently and I do like the way my bike looks, just thought it would look nice all updated, I think I will keep the bike as it is, mainly because I haven't got a clue, so paying to have it done is going to cost ????.

Thanks for the heads up mate

You could have a machinist take a bit off the coolant intake to clear the tank. Anyone you know that can weld, just need a small bead to relocate the coil. My welding skills are fair considering I grew up welding on farm equipment so it didn't have to be pretty.

And a grinder would make short work of the shock mount.
