Default Machine the barrell?

Doing a bit of work on my bike and my dealer has sent me a gasket set and as he knows I'm putting a Wiseco piston in it he's sent me this note.

For the .15mm thick gasket (thinnest) we machine step on barrell back. With thicker gaskets use .3mm or .5mm thick so there is clearance between barrell step and step in cases.

So does it really make much differance changing the thickness of the gaskets, and enough to warrent machining the barrell?

Shall I just use the .3mm one?
