Default Re-use head gaskets/o-rings?

I'm going back to a thicker base gasket on my 2012 ec300. If I take the head off, do I need new o rings, or can I re use the current ones?

You CAN reuse them. Just check close for any damage.

On the other hand, you can replace the base gasket without removong the head from the cylinder.

Actually, I have considered that. On the other hand, I was also considering measuring the squish. What's your take on re using piston rings? There's only 20 hrs on my current top end.

In that case I would just reuse the piston and rings. And you can also measure squish without removing the head although it may be easier to do when you remove / replace the head.

I don't think you will get the cylinder and head off in one piece on the 12+ chassis. She's a pretty tight fit which takes some holding of the tongue in just the right place even with the head removed.

If the O-rings only have 20hrs on them I'd inspect and reuse. If not for $10 I'd replace them.

No point wasting money on rings/piston at 20hrs. By all means measure your end gap and compare to what they were installed at, but I'd say they'll still be well in spec.

Any comments/feedback on what you dislike about the current setup driving the change?

Yes you're right. It was a pretty tight slot getting the cylinder off when I took it off last time. However, I did pull the cylinder off with the head still attached the first time I took it apart. I had a stock .5mm base gasket in there. Then, Bought a wossner top end kit and used a thinner base gasket. I noticed that I did sign off a little earlier on top. It even had a bit of knocking due to the higher compression. That's why I'm looking to go back to the .5mm base gasket. I already ordered a new set of rings just incase. But what about seating the rings? Will the old ones seat again?
