It really comes down to if the ground is frozen. I have a YouTube video of us on rubber in a foot of snow in October and it was a little gnarly but still fun to ride. After the ground froze however you could forget about even trying to ride with rubber

Problem here is big rocks, some ledges on steep slopes. They can hold a coating of ice even after most of the snow is gone. Obviously forget about rubber, but you will ruin your spikes as well. We need a lot of snow to level things out.

Still sounds better down south.. Was up in the 70's the other weekend. I may need to make a run down just for sanity.

It's like I told mcnut, I am a puss I don't ride or play golf until the temperature reaches my age (54)! I'll wait thank you.

Actually some of the studs appear to be very durable. I have friends here in Tennessee who run them year round and just keep moving them from tire to tire as the tires wear out. They do claim that the tires do wear slower due to the studs but not as much slower as you would think. They use either "Grip Studs" or "Best-Grip" which have a carbide shank I believe. They probably only run 100-150 studs in the rear and fewer in the front but seem to have no problems on rocks or the paved roads. These studs are very expensive ($1.10 -1.25 each) but quick and easy to install or take out.

I'm going to ride around my place tomorrow for awhile. Let me know if you want to come over. zip 62458

It's probably too far for nearly everyone plus short notice.
