Question 250 cdi in 300?

Hi, just curious realy. I have an 02 ec300 uk spec, I have a cdi from an ec250 2001 in the garage and was wondering what effect it would have in my 300? Has anyone ever done this? Ive heard of 200 cdi's used in 250's.

You will get a more advanced power curve. Just like a 250 to a 250.

PEB has done this before and some other mebers I can not think of. Might not be as big as a 200 switch thoe.

In '00 they used more than 1 CDI on the 250's. I'm unsure about '01. They were differant between the EC and XC (later DE) models. The XC/DE used the more aggresive ignition curve of the motocross models. I am unsure if the EC cdi from the 250 vs 300 would have an obvious differance. Let us know if you try it out!

On the older model cdi boxes the color of the cable (the shrinkwrap protection around the main cable leads as they leave the box) is the key to the map programing.

I believe at the time they had yellow (200), red (mc250) and black (stock 250/300).

The black cdi was the most common and could be found on all 200/250 and 300s.

Maybe somebody else can enlighten on the color coding.

Steve,

Somewhere in there is a Blue coded CDI as well. I have a GasGas document from Spain at home with the color codes I have to dig up, but I think it was 125(yellow, verified), 200 (blue), EC250(red, verified), EC300(black). Also from what I have seen that started in '01. That said, I have doubts about the consistancy of this system. For example Cruiser and I both had '03 EC250s, with Red coded CDIs. The bikes were very soft off the bottom, and responded excellent to CDIs from '00 XC250s.

I'm absolutely convinced that the root cause of dissention around users of early LTR jetting kits was due to the existence of those oddball cdi's.I want one!

The Cdi on my 99 hac black wrap, on my 02 red and on my latest bike the 07 "2006 Cross" has been imprinted on the cdi box. No ideawhat it means but I like to think it is extra trick.

I'm pretty sure everything prior to '01 was black, so that was a real crap shoot.
