Default Newb Needs help

Hey guys just bought me a 2000 ec 250 and having a bit of a problem. She seems to be blowing at the front of the exhaust from were the exhaust fits around the flange that bolts to the engine i have replaced the orings however the exhaust still seems to be cocked over to one side.. The leak is coming from the gear lever side. There seems to only be 2 springs holding the exhaust on and the first bolt that goes to the frame seems that its not straight (the one with the rubber bit).. Any help would be extremely appreciated
Thanks
Luke

either the exhaust flange is loose/broken/bad gasket. or pipe is badly bent.

remove the exhaust. remove the 3 bolts on the exhaust flange. check exhaust flange gasket etc. reinstall flange

reinstall exhaust and see if you can get the exhaust over the 2 o-rings. you may need to bend some things to get it nice and tight to the flange.

Ive had the exhaust and the flange off and dindnt notice any gasket? Could this be the problem? Also thinking as the bolt to the frame is not straight (sort of pushed up at an angle) may need a bit of force to get it a nice fit thanks for the fast reply much appreciated. I dont supose you have a picture or a link were i can get the gasket from? Cheers luke

Really doesn't take much to have your exhaust get out of shape. If the rubber isolators are stretched or pulled at all. It will also mean the flange with the O-rings will not be sitting square in the cylinder. You will have to pull and pry things back.

The gasket won't make the pipe sit straight.

As far as the exhaust inlet lining up. It's an easy fix.
Clamp the pipe mount (the one closest to the pipe inlet) in a vice with the inlet facing up.
Take a 3ft long piece of pipe and insert it into the pipe inlet, grab the pipe outlet and kinda manipulate the inlet to where you need it.
You can reposition the inlet as needed.

Yes. You will be surprised on how easy it is to bend.

But once you do... you'll have a little more appreciation how one small log crossing gone bad could push your pipe back out of alignment again.

We really need someone to invent a good pipe guard and incorporate with a skid plate to eliminate this.

Huskydude,

Hyde Racing does make the skidplate/pipe protector combo and I have one on my bike. I absolutely love it (did not think I would) and will buy them from now on. However, if you ride in mud they do hold a lot in between the pipe and frame!
