Default EC250 Dual-sport gearing ?

My 2006 EC 250 is used for dual-sporting. In the UK its a necessity in order to travel on the roads between the 'green-lanes', or off-road bits we ride on.....

My bike came to me with 12/48, and as the front sprocket wasnt very good, i immediately stuck a 13t on.

Gearing still seems fairly low, and ive had no problems off-road, but could do with a few more comfortable MPH's on the tarmac stuff.

Whats gearing is everyone else who uses theirs for dual-duties running ?

Mine was running 12/48 when I first got it - way too low for road sections.
I've done the same as you, changed to 13 which is better but still a little low. Thinking about changing up to 14 but not sure it'll fit behind the guard.
The alternative is to drop 2 teeth on the rear. BTW I use mine mainly for 'laning also.

Absolutely Gary (?)

Ive got a load of different makes of rear sprockets on my ebay watching page......

Im pretty sure i'll end up going to a 45 tooth on the rear if i do (3 on rear = 1 on front); so the same as 14 on the front effectively.

Reckon that would be a nice compromise

I see you've got a 200.....

With that and your answer; Does that mean all EC's run the same final drive ratios in the gearbox ?

Not sure - i do know the 200 has a different stroke which means the 250/300 top end won't go straight on

My bike is dual sported and has 13/50 gearing. Stuff off-road in Pa can be tight and nasty so I didn't mess with it when I did the conversion. I do very little on road, mainly just connecting trails and being legal for dual sport rides. I think about 7-8 miles of back roads is as far as I ride it on road to get to some local trails when I don't feel like loading the bike up to ride.
