Default floppy rear fender

I Just mounted an acerbis universal rear taillight on to the rear fender of my 2003 DE 250. With the extra weight, The fender just flops around. I have a race this weekend and would like to know if anyone had any ideas. I already tired a gusset, a metal strap, and both, but it really didn't help much. I was thinking about buying some 1/2 diameter copper pipe and making my own subframe extension using the two exhaust bracket bolts on the right side and the one fender brace bolt on the left. sort of like a "U" shape with a bend to follow the contour of the fender. what do you think?

That's what I've got on my Gasser. You could hunt down a GasGas subframe loop as well.

Did the '03 de/ce come from the factory with some sort of sub frame extension to support the rear taillight assembly? I tried to rig something up with threaded rod, but it didn't hold up. I actually ended up almost tearing off my new tail light.

I know the 2004 did. http://www.gofasters.com/index.php?m...ath=65_365_797

That MXsouth brace doesn't look like too bad of an option.

I've had both. The acerbis part works great and I'd get one for a pre '07 bike for sure, I actually have not seen it in awhile. The GG frame loop sucks, to put it bluntly. What it does is give a lot more leverage to bend the subframe in a crash. On my '00 XC250 with the acerbis I never tweaked the subframe, on my '03 with the loop it was constantly bending. If you use a small LED taillight/plate holder you are better off still.

I'll look into that Acerbis fender brace. I just don't like having to drill into the fender as it already has 8 holes in it from the previous owner and mine attempts to fix the floppy fender. I may just use a kx250 rear fender as its made out of stiffer plastic and could possibly support more weight without a brace. this is starting to cost me a stupid amount of money just to make the bike enduro legal again.

even with the new fender, U would be wise to buy that Aceribis brace. Thanks for posting that. I will order one if I need another in the future.
