Default EC 125 Gear Shifter Problem

OK here we go.... whilst out racing for a few hours in a local hare ad hounds on Saturday (I WAS DOING WELL!!!!) until....

...I lost all gears about 2nd. 1st and 2nd were fine, but lost everything else.

I continued the race in second, and since then have got home and started to strip the bike down.

Any ideas from you guys as to whats up before I strip the bottom half of the engine down???

thanks,

jonny weston

Could it be the return spring for the gear shifter mechanism? I think I have read about it on this forum.

Pull the side cover and clutch to inspect. You then can see whats happening as the "Scorpion" and drum are clearly visible. If the shift lever moves without any "feel", I suspect a sticking Scorpion. Easy fix.

Default Hey Guys

A sticking scorpion eh??

What is the scorpian?
The shifter is at the minute as you suspect lacking in feeling, there's no return on the shifter at all.

Do I still have the remove the engine from the bike to get the clutch out, or will the cover be sufficient do you think?

Are there any diagrams on the web of what the scorpian looks like.

thanks again,

Jonny weston

"Scorpion" is the GG term for the pawl that engages the shift drum. It slides on a mating piece welded to the shift shaft. Everything can be accessed by removing the side cover and clutch. The shift shaft may be pulled out this way after removing the shift lever. Consult the parts manual drawings.
