Default KYB SSS fork conversion

Has anyone here done or even seen a fork swap with Yamaha KYB SSS forks that used the GG front wheel and triple clamps. I understand a complete YZ front end bolts up pretty easily, however I really want to use as much of the original GasGas parts as possible. I already have an extra set of oem GG triples that can be machined to fit and a set of 08 YZ forks. Just wondering if anyone has successfully overcome the axle, spacer, brake issues involved?

I converted my sachs forks with the sss inserts. ....lots of work....not realy worth it. If you have complete kyb front end then i strongly suggest to mount it up.

The kyb sss dampening system is stellar. My sachs forks have 1mm thicker lower tubes so they are more rigid. The kyb lower tubes flex a little more...which is a good thing.

I read about what you did with the KYB internals. Sounds like a great setup in the end but yes a ton of work. If I had Sachs forks I would gladly go with TTX inserts and be done with this. Unfortunately I've got Zoke 45s so thats not an option. After more looking, thinking, reading, and measuring I'm ordering a set of used YZ triple clamps to get started. I can then borrow a friends YZ front wheel and brake setup for a weekend to see if this is going to work I well as I think. If it does then I can make some decisions on adapting the GasGas wheel or giving in and just using all Yamaha stuff.

What changes in front end length and trail have you discovered, if any?
With the complete YZ front end, is it basically a bolt on deal?

I just finished installing my SSS forks today. Friend gave me the whole front end minus a couple of parts I found easily on e-bay, Now it's time to break it back down and send it off to Drew Smith for a little shortening. Everything fit pretty good except it hits my radiator guard cross braces which I can figure something out eventually. Need to take a good look at Ed Ventura's bike next time I see him.

Ed Ventura on here has a thread on a complete YZ front end swap. Another member has done it too, don't remember the name right now. Whether you use KYB or Showa forks though it seems they are longer than the Zokes and you will have considerably more fork showing above the top triple clamp. In my case, I've got a sub mounted stabilizer so I have some extra room to do that if needed. Unsure about the differences in clamp offsets and position of axle to fork leg. What I do know is that the YZ uses a wider spacing on the triples and that the lower fork axle lugs angle inward. I'm pretty sure that using the GasGas clamps isn't an option because the hub itself would be too wide then.

Les at LTR recommended swapping the whole front end....I guess I was being stubborn, however I was willing to spend some time and effort to be able to use good parts I already had. Oh well on to plan B.....
