Default Dual Sporting a 2T

I know a lot of folks DS their EC300's and 250's, but I just feel weird riding a 2T on the road. I feel like I am abusing my 06 EC300 when I am even connecting trails with pavement (not to mention buzzy). I have an XR650R that I love to DS, but the Gasser just seems wrong. My GG had been plated, but I don't think I will even do that. I have seen where people SM their GG. Is it smooth at all or do you just live with it? I am not saying you are wrong, just trying to understand. The big question is how long does your motor last?
