Default Port Timing

Is there much to be gained from getting the top of the piston level with the intake ports? I would have to use a stack of gaskets to achieve this. I would then have the head cut to bring the compression back up. Would I gain much top end from this? Anyone played with this stuff?

See this thread for some general info on how port timing, squish and porting modifications alter the power curve. http://www.gasgasrider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10113

It all depends how far out it is. A little difference ie 0.3mm won't make as much difference as say a whole mm would. IMO if you are happy with the way the bike is running I'd keep it as is. If you're looking for a bit more, then by all means go for it.

I personally like the bike a bit softer off the bottom and the big power up top. It suits my riding style.

I added .05 to my gasket stack and it didn't really do to much. So I am with Jakobi if it runs good don't fix what isn't broke.
