Default 2009 Husky CR125

I have acquired one! She's rough around the edges.. She's rough everywhere. The engine seems OK from inspection, but I haven't even tried to start her yet as the airfilter was falling apart, and carb had stale fuel in it. She's been pulled apart.

The big task of cleaning, and sourcing parts is underway.. all while trying to stay within a budget! Need to keep costs under $1500AUD for it to be worth while.

My 09 125 was a great bike, lite as a feather and never gave me any trouble.
It's on the third owner and still going strong.
Good luck with it!

She only has 60hrs on it, with rings done at 25hrs. Doesn't appear to be any blow by peeking in the exhaust port.

Cosmetically she's horrible. Plastics faded, frame has some suface rust. Pipe is coated in rust. Have some play in the swingarm up and down, and not sure if it's upper shock or just slop in the linkage and swingarm pivot. Trying to keep costs down, but not sure where to compromise. The bikes aren't worth a lot here as used items, and never were pricey new either. It doesn't make financial sense to invest heavily on it.

On the other hand, if I can keep prices down it'll be a fun little bike!

Estimates so far show I should be OK to stick to budget, but need to either leave the top end for a bit, polish the old pipe, or just service the linkages instead of replacing. Either option should save between 150-350 aud.

You might be able to help me with a few things (waiting membership approval on the brand appropriate forum).

Head stays are missing. I assume cracked. Revised parts for 2010+ - more expensive but probably worth it.

Pipe fitment. She's tight past the shock res. Updated canister for 2010. FMF shows fitment for 2010-2012 but no pipes for 2009. Any idea if the 2010 will bolt up OK?

Yes it will. Wish I never sold mine.

Yours must be 2010+ different shock to mine. Good to know the pipe will fit though. Still tossing up to polish up the stocker or just fork out for a replacement.

By all accounts it seems the 09 was a bit of a dud. First year significant upgrade from 08.. with 10 coming in addressing all the 09 short falls. Regardless, she should be a fun little dinger once it's been freshened up.

I'd sand down that pipe and spray it with black bbq/grill high temp paint.

As for the rear suspension slop, most of the rear linkage & swing arm pivot are probably OK. I'd find & replace the worn out part & just service the rest.

Fix what's broke & service the rest. That's what I'd do to keep the cost down on the whole project.

If you really like the bike once you get it up & running, you can always do upgrades then.

I know you've got the experience to do what needs doing. I'm just throwing in my .02 cts worth.

Mine was a 09, 50mm twin Zokes. I changed the shock. The frame on the 09 was different than the 10 up so you have to get a 09 skid plate. I know the 09 triple clamps have a different offset also. I rode a 12 back to back, my 09 and had less front end push than the 12 in tight single track.

I think I still have some parts laying around if you are interested. I know I have a Rekluse, Leo Silencer and pretty sure I have the newer head stay brackets. Probably more.
