The upside...it's fairly easy to send the bicycle somewhere, other than your immediate "crash space". Not so easy, with a motorbike. Getting speared by a bar end, or pedal is quite painful...providing you're conscious. I wear my chest protector(along with other unseen armor), when fooling with any DH action.
