Ok here's one for ya.
Ok here's one for ya.
It's been brought to my attention (Thx Rod) that on the bottom of the engine case (EC300) between the oil drain plug and the crank drain plug is another threaded hole in the case. It has no bolt in it. I'm assuming in must be a drain hole but not sure... This is looking through the skid plate while standing on my head. sorta upside down picture.

It's a mounting hole for the assembly line jigs when they are building the engines.

Thank you.
Does it need to be plugged or is it a blind hole? I guess I could go out and stick something in it to see how deep it is...

isn't that also a "drain" or vent for the ignition/flywheel area? I think it is drilled through to that area.

The paranoia in me keeps me doing this. I had a KTM 125 once that trapped water under it and rusted all the steel parts, the ensuing carnage was a blown crank seal and a lunched bottom end.

I was told it's a port hole to a parallel universe, everyone rides Gasser's, apart for some strange sorts that ride KTM's. And there's a good looking version of me that rides pro level enduro. Of course that could be wrong, but I'd plug it up just incase! |

Maybe
Could you stuff some foam or mesh in there? Is there a "one-way" plug around?

it seems strange to me that they would make a vent hole where water can get into the ignition area. i would think that you would plug it, and take it apart regularly to clean out anything that does get inside. or maybe put a tap and hose in it and run the hose back so that it would be harder to get water into. dunno, just doesnt seem like a good idea to put a vent there.

One of the shops in Australia made some 6mm Vent screws for the front
gas tank mount, your cap vent line can fit on it. You could use one of these to put a vent line on. Plug it just before a ride, then unplug after.... |
