Could be due to running rich could just be that you're a lugger using less then half throttle all the time could be you're using a race type 2 stroke oil with a high flash point which you'll never reach trail riding.

For more discussion start a new thread or search for precious ones there are heaps.
ok thanks

Default 2013 xc300r south alabama

2nd jetting post, 1rst post feb,2013
Bike= 2013 xc300r 38mm as2,
elevation= 0 sea level - 500ft gulf of mexico.
main jet = 178
pilot jet = 42
needle = n3cj 3rd middle clip.
airscrew = 1 3/4 out
slide = #7
float height = 2mm above stock
premix 93 octane 44:1 amsoil dominator.
I have tried n1ef and n3ch, n3ch was better than stock but lacked bottom end grunt. After reading Simmo737 jetting post and Jacobi post, I
tried the n3cj and 178 main
man did this thing come Alive with low end power and keeps on kicking through top end and I have noticed fuel mileage has increased.
Thanks for the post guys I would not got here with out them !

Good Riding to all!!

Oz,
I see where you changed to the:
main = 175
pilot = 40
needle = nedw 2nd from top
slide = #7
from the 178 main, n3cj needle 3rd, 42 pilot.
I have not done any head mod but I have purchased the nedw needle.
I like the the power delivery with the n3cj and 178 main, 42 pilot, it does spooge alittle,great low end, seems to lack aliitle in the middle with hard hit on top. Way better than stock though. I ride tight single track. do you think I should try the nedw, 175 main, 40 pilot? What changes did you notice?

Thanks,

Bike year & model = 2011 EC300E fitted with 38mm PWK ASII carb and reed block spacer and fitted with modified head
(squish - 1.45mm, compression ratio - 12.7:1)
Temperature (degC) = 14 - 18 degC,
65% - 80% humidity
Elevation (feet) = 1000f, or 300-500m.
Main jet = 175
Pilot jet = 42
Needle & notch = NEDJ #2
Air screw setting = 7/8's turn out
Throttle valve/slide = 7 non notched

Results:
Good torquey power lugs down quite well, once on the needle it felt good, had good strong power throughout the rev range, though felt rich from 3/4 throttle onwards and fell slightly flat. A user friendly and forgiving needle for tight single track, oodles of torque down low that builds into a nice smooth strong mid and top end. Not as explosive as the N3 series needles, which in my case is a good thing as I enjoy riding the more technical terrain where the N3 series needles wears you out..
The fuel economy is great for once
10l used for 110k's on day 1 (50k's flowing single/twin trail with hills, 50k's fire trail)
6l used for 90k's on day 2 (90% fire trail).

11.2l used for 118k's (the last 20 k's were done on reserve and on fire trails at a conservative pace

Could have gone one step leaner on the main as it was still a bit rich, but it made good power and had good over rev so I'd prefer to leave it safe.

7.2l for 76k's. Nearly all of it single track at a decent 2nd/3rd gear pace.

What is the difference between all the needles? Mine says n1ef the book lists an n1ec? I keep reading people using JDKH01 blue? CCK etc.

Has anyone got a link that cross references the different needle types and where to buy them from?

I am progressing with playing with the jets and theoretically I understand the amount of fuel/ air the jet would deliver if I move it up the clip. But what is the difference in the actual needles?

Have a search or start a new thread Andy. Simply put, needles can have various straight sections, diameters, and any number of tapers to their profile to supply varying amounts of fuel across the throttle range. The jets (pilot and main) only really impact on either end of the needles action.
