How do I tell if I have a reculartor/rectifier? My bike is an EC 250 and it had a headlight at one time.

The regulator has three wires, one to ground and two to yellow (I think, at least one is yellow). Reg/rec has more wires, I think four and is larger. The little regulator is tucked in the frame gap at the steering head, under the front of the fuel tank. If you have a fancy voltmeter you can test for AC or DC on the output. AC is regulator, DC is regulator/rectifier. In your second pic down, there is a yellow wire sheathed in black. I believe that is your hot to or from the regulator. I don't think you would have a DC rectifier if you don't have tail and turn lights, but I could be wrong.

The violet connects the front lights to the back lights, it has no power until you hook it up to power through the switch. It's confusing at first, but very simple once you figure it out, sorry I can't explain it very well. Grab a soda or a cup of coffee and stare at the wiring diagram for a bit. No beer, because you need (at least I did) your faculties when sorting it out. But, here's my interpretation- The yellow is hot to the switch. Violet is switched power out of the switch (provides juice to front and rear light systems). The white supplies switched power to the brake light from the brake switch, brake switch needs power from the yellow or violet wire, your choice. That should sort out your wires.

In a nutshell, yellow is always hot, and purple is hot when you connect it to yellow with the headlamp switch. White is hot when you connect it to hot through the brake switch. Clear as mud?

Here's a reg/rec-

Here's a regulator only-

Thanks Phil. I will take your advice and stare at that wiring diagram. According to Eff, I have a rectifer, if you look at the second picture I posted in my first post.

Coming back to this picture...there's 4 headlight wires...can one set be wired into the DRL light? then the other two wired to work with a HI, LO and off switch or is one set the hi beam and one set the low beam?

Upon closer inspection...I do not have two yellows and two violets. I have one yellow...which to my understanding is the hot. Another Yellow/Green which I believe is a ground...and two Violets.

Does that make more sense to anyone?
