Default LS2 MX 700 Subverter

So epic fail on finding an MX 470 in my size.

Finally found soemone in Australia with stock of the MX700....supposed to be the repalcement for the MX470. $250 delivered seemed a good price to me....here it is....

Helmet 1.jpg

Helmet 2.jpg

Pro's over my MX470:
Black fabric on the liner....won't look scungy after a few rides
Visor screws look more substantial
Better paint finish

Negatives:
Additional vents in the rubber above the chin guard ...WTF for?
Not much coloure choice from the distributor here....got the "Dayglo Derek" scheme

Neutral:
Fits just the same as the MX470

Yet to ride in it ....will give you a report when I do

Generally riding in dry dusty conditions.

Already a negative that the helmet doesn't have any foam behind the main vent at the front of the chin bar.

The additional vents on the rubber above the chin bar just seem to be another way of dust and dirt to get in my face!http://www.gasgasrider.org/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif

First ride in the new helmet on the weekend

No negatives , does everything the MX 470 did.

One positive I noticed was that although the same size (XS) the cheek pads seemed to have more "give" and I didn't get hamster cheeks / sore jaw the way I did with the 470

All up - no complaints!

Good to hear. I'll probably buy one after my 470 is ready for replacement.

About the lack of foam in the front vents and such... with dust I haven't noticed any difference compared to any other helmet I've ever worn. I've run Shoei, Klim, Oneal, Kali, and my current LS2 MX470. I ride in the Sonoran desert (Southern Arizona) and it's dusty probably 99% of the year. Even if there was a difference dust wise I would still go for any extra cooling I can get.

True , not noticed much more dust than usual .....just think the foam insert as per my last non LS2 helmet would be a good addition.

If it was removeable you'd have a choice to install or not.

I'm with you , it's not a deal breaker and I'd also still buy it for the ventshttp://www.gasgasrider.org/forum/images/smilies/cool.gif

How is the venting over the head?
Any channels that actually work?

How is the weight? Normal/light/heavy?

Been looking at those for a while but never in the flesh.

How is the fit? Is it for "long" heads such as Shoei/HJC, Airoh Aviator 1, etc, or is it for "round" heads such as Airoh Aviator 2 or like many other Italian lids?

Yes the venting works....weight I would say was "average"....had heavier helmets , had lighter.

In terms of suitability for head shape , I have heard it described as suitable for "long oval" ....not sure where I read that.

Haven't worn any of the helmets you mentioned so can't compare.

All I can say is it fits my pin head (XS small size) and is comfortable for a day of riding

Had a big off a few weeks ago , high side off the bike on a steep downhill.

Must have stopped my whole accelerating body weight on my head and right shoulder.

Result was a mild concussion, a sore shoulder and a trip in an ambulance for a CT scan which came back clear!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the MX 700 did its job and absorbed the impact.

I am now on my second MX 700 !
