Probably extra chrome plating.
Bulk metal tubing only comes in certain sizes.
I doubt FMF would spec an odd ball size for their pipes.

Very cool! What kind of welder did you use?

Like I said I just did it that way because it was expedient given the tools I had at hand.

I still haven't found out if this particular silencer was maybe just fabbed wrong or if they're all like that. I might try giving FMF a call and see what they say. Seems weird that it would be such a tiny bit too small.

It's the swage on the inlet pipe that's wrong. I don't know exactly how they do that but I assume it requires a mandrel of some sort.

I have a Lincoln TIG welder. I'm not too proud of the weld in the pic above. I was in a hurry and didn't get set up right.

I redid it at a lower angle, took my time, and the weld is a a lot more prettier now.

FWIW, my FMF TC2 is a bitch of a tight fit on both of my OEM GG pipes, so perhaps its not just a Stealth thing. I agree with Girard as it seems like a plating issue.

FMF is not the gold standard in fit and finnish, or customer service for that matter. I was never able to talk to anyone there that didn't sound like a high school kid.

I talked to Kevin Hines once about FMF pipes and pipe guards. He told me that FMF has a set of stamped cone sections that they configure to make pipes for the various bikes. The angles may be different but the cones are the same in many cases. Thats why some of the eline guards fit more than one bike.

When the '07s first came out, the guys at T&C just heated and slightly bent the pre '07 silencer/SAs to fit. Looked and worked fine. I would think it would work fitting an '07+ Stealth on an '05 as well, for the guy without a TIG welder.
