This is the existing bearing and spacers.
I’ll reuse my spare hub and lace up the rim. I need to check it for major damage. Which I think is ok. Only a small dent and usual scrapes. I am powder coating the hub. I removed the bearings without heat so thats what I’ll continue to do. I don’t like the current setup. I’ll get a bearing with the ID of the axle. And have custom spacers made.

You cannot eliminate that internal spacer.
IDK what you mean by not liking the current setup. But you have to have that spacer floating in there. |

I’m not eliminating the internal spacer. I know its needed for preload. You notice the shoulder? It goes in the ID of the bearing. Making the ID 17mm for my axle. I’m going to get a bearing that has a 17mm ID. That shoulder on all the spacers pressed into the bearing is a pain.
I’ll make an internal spacer without the shoulders. This will make bearing changes easier. Its hard getting my point across on a forum. Thanks for the input.

Let's see.
Should be able to use the spacers you have. Just mill them back to where the taper starts. Or turn them down on a lathe.Right? |

Yes I could turn them down. I want to keep those spacers just in case. I have access to a machine shop at work so the spacers are no big deal. One of my machinists can whip those up from stainless scrap during lunch if I want.

Is this for your '99? I'm not certain, but I believe I have the long end spacer (bottom of your pic) at the house in NC. I plan on being there by this weekend.
If you want it, it's yours for postage. I got it by accident back when I was replacing the wheel bearings on my '01. The ID & OD are the same from '99 to '01, but the length is different. RB |

Mine is a '99, but I don't have stand 'zooks, I have WP extreme's 50mm conventionals. 17mm is the axle diameter.

48 in.lb is pretty much the accepted standard today.
You can only get accurate spoke torque numbers with pristine components. It really comes down to feel and constant adjustment until they stay snug and the wheel stays true IMHO |
