Default My first Enduro!

So I'm signing up to race my first ever enduro. It's the Chimney Rock enduro in Price Utah. I don't suppose anyone here has ever races this particular one?

I'm not sure which class I fall in so I was just going to sign up for the sportsman class and then run the tests as fast as I can and not worry about the time penalties. That way I can get a solid understanding of my skill level and know where to sign up next time???

What does everyone think? Any suggestions?

Is it a time keeper? or Qualifier / National format?

If its a time keeper, if you run WFO, you'll be burning checks all day long.....just line up on your minute and ride with someone who has a clue.....stay with them...ride their race. When you hit the specials...pin it!!! then fall back in line. If you don't have all the time keeping equipment!

If its a National or qualifier, it should be all about special test, 7-8 of them, 100 ground miles.....WFO in the specials! other than that it will be a trial ride!

Enjoy!

Thanks for the input!

It's a restart, but they are penalizing for hitting the check before your minute.

It shouldn't be possible to hit a check before your minute in a restart. That's the whole point of a restart, is to be able to just ride as fast as you want and not have to worry about keeping time. Typically in a restart if someone burns a check the test has to be thrown out for the entire field of riders.

I'm sorry, I'm still not fully grasping all the formats.

From what I read, it is a restart, with the time card taped to the fender. So from what I understand, traditionally you run the test as fast as you can. This year they introduced a rule that if you reach the end of the test too early, you are penalized points as well. I'm guessing this is to keep people from sand bagging???

Anyhow, since I'm not sure what level of rider I am, I'm just going to run it as fast as I can so that I have something to gauge what class I should sign up for in the future.

Do you guys carry your whole tool setup for enduros? I usually carry quite a few tools, first aid, etc...

Is this a AMA / club sanctioned event? Enduros are all about knowing the rules!!!! Knowledge is power in the enduro world.
I dont like time keeper style events........cause I dont like reading the rule book. Reset style are much easier to ride........for a cross country guy like me.

As for class..... age or bike displacement??? Age!!! Say u sign up in the C 200 class......more than likey it will be a bunch of WFO kids........then you sign up for the 40+C class...... now the playing field is level...you peers......all within age group.

I never really carried a ton of tools......bikes of today are pretty bullet proof...... just go out, enjoy the day.....ask question and most of all.....have fun....be safe......any dont ride over your head......most enduroes are at least 90 miles........

Hah! It's not till this Saturday. The 3rd.

Thanks for all the input! I'm excited to give it a shot. I'll thin out my pack a little to reduce some weight, make sure my bike is fresh, and try to have fun!
