Default Wrist-pin retention clips

I deformed one during instalation.

It is for a Vertex 300 piston. I gather that the wrist pin and clips are not part of the Vertex piston kit.

ME25616035 is the "ROD.RV.18X22X21,8 S E-416" I think this is the wrist pin and clips.

I only need one of the clips. I noticed that those clips for the 300 cc piston are much much more stout than what I am used to on the 250s.

If anyone has one of these laying around in good shape, I could make good use of one.

Can the deformed one be bent back into shape ?

Once the spring is "sprung" it's done. Don't try to reuse it like Fury said.

You didn't say which year your bike was, but I checked the 2007 parts catalog and its lists the same clip for 200cc to 300cc (part# 4).

EDIT: the 125cc has a different clip.

125cc piston clip = ME120116126
200cc-300cc piston clip = ME25616126

When I did my 300 top end with the Vertex piston I could not believe how thick and strong the new clips were! They were a pain to get in.
DO NOT reuse the clips!
FYI I believe a CR250 clip will work on the Gasser.
Good Luck!

Default Treesmacker is right.

The new wristpin circlips are ultra tough and way thicker than any I have ever dealt with. I have owned and worked on a lot of 250s and those clips are workable, but the new Vertex 300 piston clips are really hefty.

In my opinoin, they are TOO hefty.

Maybe Vertex has had trouble with the lighter ones and upgraded to these monsters.

They have always been like that since I've been using Vertex. Hold the clip at one end with a stiff set of needle nose pliers. Start the clip in the pin bore of the piston in a position that will allow you to use the cutout for clearance for the tip of the pliers. That way you don't have to over compress the circlip to fit the tip of the pliers in the pin bore.

Use the Wiseco clips, they are much easier to install and you can get them from almost every motorcycle dealer. The part number is CW18, they fit most all the 250-300 2-stroke motocross engines. Or you give your name and address I will send you a set for free. NEVER reuse clips.
