Alternatives to Camelbak
For years I've been using and loving my Camelbak Mule. However, I recently discovered that Camelbak is one of the retailers behind the push for The Greater Canyonlands National Monument (http://www.suwa.org/wp-content/uploa...lersLetter.pdf) and I cannot in good conscience continue to use their products.
If this goes through, this not only will kill all of the riding opportunities in this area, which includes areas in Moab and the Whitewash Sand dunes, it could very well change locals' very way of life. Many of us still use wood harvested from these public lands (legally of course) to heat our homes, myself included. There are also many that rely on meat that is hunted on these lands to feed their families and there are a few outfitters that that have incomes derived from guiding hunts on these lands...sorry for the rant, it just really pisses me off! Anyway, I just wondered what hydration packs you guys are using. I'm not a racer but often do longer trail rides (50+ miles) and like the 100 oz bladder and room for tools and food that my Mule provides. I will soon be removing the Camelbak Mule patch from my pack and sending it with a (respectful) rant letter to Camelbak and then destroying the pack. So, any suggestions? Also, if you don't mind, and want to do anything you can to stop this absurdity from happening go here and sign this petition: http://www.change.org/petitions/pres...ional-monument Thanks, all. Rant over.

Thanks for the notice. I'll be doing the same with my Camelbak Lobo.
I used to enjoy riding down there when I lived in SLC. Been to Devil's Racetrack ? I think that's what it was called. It's kind of a natural bridge over a deep gully. Lots of boulders. It might have been in Capitol Reef area ? 1990s we used to camp and ride down there and not see anyone for 3 days. No GPS then. We just used topo maps. Good days. |

I have been running the Zacspeed SP-3 for 5 years now and has been great, highly recommend it. The only issue is if you're in a hurry, you either have to remove it or have someone pull the tool roll out for you, same as any unit that carry's tools on the back. The tool belts are quicker to get to, but I prefer not to have the extra weight on my waist.
Wes.

+3 on the ZakSpeed.
No issues with slime. I've left water in it for weeks. |

Geigerrig Hydration Packs are popular around here as they sell them every now and then in Costco. You can just buy the bladder and use a generic backpack to save money. Big advantages are: Hand pressurized system allowing spraying of water (for the KTM radiator in the group...I used it on my 200SX so I'm not bashing!), easy and large filler so ice cubes can be dropped in, and it's dishwasher cleanable.

Thanks, these are some great suggestions. Are the Zacspeed available stateside for less? The USWE stuff looks cool and I like the hands-free setup. With the Geigerrig you could squirt your buddies in the eyea if they dared to mess with you!
Has anyone used the Klim stuff? They're available from RMATV and RMATV is dropping their Camelbak products for the same reason I am. Good stuff guys.
