General question to you fellow racers/riders,how many of you wear a back support. I'm starting to get more fatigue in my lower back when racing. I've tried kidney belts in the past but have found they restricted my breathing when I have to take very deep breaths(getting stuck, pushing on hills,etc.). Any suggestions.

I wear two at one time. Firsf is an elastic back brace that I got from Walgreens. Similar to the ones that grocery baggers use.
On top of that is a brace I got from my chiropractor. It has a mini block & tackle mechanism that really sinches me down. |

I wear a pressure suit that has a kidney belt built in. I wear it barely tight but even that seems to help verses not wearing on at all.

maybe your kidney belt is too high if it is restricting breathing? It is also more for kidney support than back support as the kidneys are not attached to anything solid, but in a kind of jelly that allows them to shake up pretty good if unsupported.
try doing a 30 day plank challenge (google)- this will stiffen up your core and reduce your lower back ache - it did for me and i only got up to about day 25 and now just do it every now and again

I've been wearing a Thor and I think my lower back feels better after a race, not as sore. Doesn't effect breathing that I've noticed.

Breath through your diaphragm not your belly, easier said then done. My low back is eff'd, i dont race, but am short and have a problem when trying to touch the ground to save my ass sometimes. I try and just tuck an roll if it seems best, ha!

I've always worn a kidney belt for over 30 years with same issues until I tried a Kevco-Stubbs belt. Much easier on stomach yet still provide lower back support. The elastic is finally loosing it's stretch on mine (never use wash machine, I clean w/garden hose) so I just recently looked online.
www.kevco-stubbs.com Scotts performance is listed as a dealer Also found www.sportbelt.com
